Who said there aren’t any European cowboys? The popularity of America’s Horse has spread throughout Europe and in response the European Championship of American Quarter Horses is scheduled for August 18 – 26 in Germany. Although it may not yet be a counterpart to the annual World Show in the United States, it is Europe’s largest competition for American Quarter Horses. Approximately 500 horses from all over Europe are expected.

Lucrative awards, in the form of trophies and cool cash, are presented in western and hunter-under-saddle classes. However, perhaps one of the most interesting awards will go to the horse chosen as the European Superhorse. That title will go to the horse that collects the highest amount of points in at least three classes and two categories in the open division.

“This award is a special tribute to the versatility of the American Quarter Horse,” says Uwe Bader, show manager.

Who knows? The next Rugged Lark may be crowned on the other side of the Atlantic.
