Get to Know Adoptable Horse Lady Pele

Lady Pele, or just “Pele,” is a 4-year-old Thoroughbred filly bred in Kentucky. She is by Tapiture (a son of leading sire Tapit) and out of Sotique, a daughter of Hennessy. She is eligible for the Retired Racehorse Project’s Thoroughbred Makeover Competition.

Lady Pele raced nine times, and last worked at the track on June 16, 2023 and then retired. She fractured both front condyles in 2021 and has a screw in each leg; Second Stride does have x-rays. She is currently sound and is doing well under saddle.

Pele is a very sweet filly with a willing attitude. She is “more whoa than go” in the arena and has a nice, big walk when hacking out. Pele can be nervous in new environments but responds very well to support from her handler/rider, and she will ride out from the barn with or without a buddy.

At this time, Pele is suitable for an intermediate rider who works with a trainer. She should be suitable for any discipline once healed. She may do best on the flat or with supplements for a more athletic career.

Pele enjoys being groomed and will bond quickly with her partner. She is respectful of her handlers and doesn’t seem to have any vices. She is quiet in her stall and settles down quickly to graze when out. She gets along well with her pasture mates and is a delight to be around.

Pele needs to go to a home where she can stay long term. She should not be a resale project.
