Get to Know Adoptable Horse Tajol

Tajol is a beautiful 2010, 15.3hh Kentucky-bred registered Thoroughbred mare seeking a home as a companion or training project. Last raced in 2014, she earned over $37,000 with 23 starts in her two years of racing. Since retiring, she’s been serving as a broodmare until her owner recently decided to retire her. She’s now seeking a home where she could either live as a companion or find someone able to invest in her retraining.

Tajol has that lovable sass that chestnut Thoroughbred mares are typically known for. She comes across as being very smart and sensitive to what’s going on around her. She has stood well for grooming and picking up all four hooves. She also allowed handlers to lift up her lip to read her tattoo.

While Tajol could be a companion horse for the rest of her life, she’s still at an age and mindset where she’d probably benefit more from having a job. She appears to be healthy and sound, so an ideal home for her would be with someone who has the experience or trainer to get her going again under saddle. Hopefully she’ll remember a little bit of what she learned as a youngster, but she may need a complete restart. A full evaluation will be needed to fully determine the extent of training she’ll need.

Tajol stands for the vet and farrier, is good for shots and deworming, and loads. She is an easy keeper on grass, barefoot, turned out 24/7 and un-blanketed in the winter. She tends to be a bit more bossy with the other horses in her herd, but someone’s gotta take that status, right?
