With the popularity of the Kentucky Derby and the Triple Crown races, horse racing is a popular topic for equestrians and non-equestrians people alike. In the United States, there are flat races by Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses, Arabians, and other breeds; harness races by Standardbreds; and jump races, national hunt races, or steeplechasing (hurdling) by Thoroughbreds and French-bred jumpers (Selle Francais).
