I REALLY APPRECIATE this article!!! I am a NEW HORSE OWNER and I found the very detailed information to be exactly what I needed to know to get “My Baby Boy” -Road Runner- thoroughly clean and keep his mane, tail, and coat looking amazing as well making sure that his skin is properly cared for. I will be reading more of your articles as I grow with my Stud, to learn to handle the new challenges I am sure to face.

I only bathe for a cleaner horse since I don’t show. I never knew it was so complicated.

I liked the part about putting him in a lightweight sheet so he doesn’t roll in mud before a show – funny and cute.

My Bay’s tail and mane get gold hairs, that really mess with her over all look. She is exposed to sun light all the time, is that what does it?

Perfect article. Very practical and useful. In offering my 2¢ I’d say that if you have a horse like I do that absolutely hates the hose, you can fill up a large tub and use a bucket and sponge to bathe him.

I’m new to the horse world and glad that I read the article, I know not to bathe my boy too often.
Also, I learned you should start with the tail, mane,body then legs.
