This contest is closed. Click here to view the winners

Winter, spring, summer or fall, there are great equine photo opportunities year-round.

A Horse for All Seasons is the theme of this year’s Horse Illustrated Photo Contest, so capture your horse on camera in a moment that exhibits the mood–from a snow-covered horse in winter to a good spring frolic–and enter the 2008 Horse Illustrated Photo Contest for your chance to win one of three high-quality Rambo saddle pads from Horseware Ireland.

The contest is open to amateur photographers only. Entries should be focused, well-composed photos of your horse taken in a hazard-free environment. With each photo submission, please include:

  • Your name, address, phone number and e-mail
  • Horse’s name, age and breed (if known)
  • Brief photo caption or description

The contest will be judged on the quality of the photograph, so here are some tips to capture that perfect shot!

Early morning or late afternoon light is most flattering.
Photos should portray safe, responsible horsemanship.
Film and digital photos professionally printed produce the best quality image.
E-mailed digital photos need to be high resolution (300 dpi).

The deadline for photo entries is June 1. The images that best capture horses in any of the four seasons will be featured in the September issue of Horse Illustrated, and could also appear online at www.horsechannel.com.

  1. I think this is a wonderful idea. I do think however, that all the pictures if it is possible, should be shown on the website so everyone can look at them. The other thing is how do you decide fairly if someone is in a photo class and knows how to properly take photos as to someone who does it as a hobby. Overall I think it is a Great idea.
