This was a very interesting article. Although I have asked over the years about 20 farriers and they have all told me that they think white hooves are softer… thanks for enlightening me.

We have a product in the UK called Silverfeet. It’s a miracle product for hooves. It’s a breathable hoof balm that protects the hoof from infection as it contains Silver, (anti-microbial !) it strengthens the hoof, heals cracked heels, cures Thrush in a couple of days, it’s also helped with mud fever, and gives an everlasting shine, we wouldn’t be without it on our yard.

Not every horses hooves grow the same or enough to be trimmed every 6-8 wks.My mare has slow hoof growth that or she just wears her hooves evenly an continuously.She only needs a trim every 12-16 weeks or she will go lame from too much trimming in such a short time.She has nice solid sturdy hooves.

Some horses that go without shoes can “self-trim,” if they are in the right terrain. My horse was on pasture, with rocky ground, which kept his feet in a trimmed, healthy condition and therefore, he could go longer without trimmings from the farrier.
