I also didn’t know about sheath cleaning. He doesn’t smell or anything. But his penis is flaky. And I noticed to small streaks of blood on it. That lead me here. All I have in way of soap is rabbit shampoo. Will that work? Ps I have had him for 1.5 yrs. I don’t know if he’s ever had a sheath cleaning. Or how I can get him to drop

About a year ago I noticed him lifting his back leg like it was bothering him but soon realized it was a discomfort related to his sheath/penis. I also noticed a bad smell. My vet cleaned his sheath and said it was fine, but since then over the past year I have had to clean his sheath many times. I have noticed that the head of his penis resembles cauliflower with a lot of small bumps. He develops a lot of smegma too in a very short period of time. I have also tried an antifungal cream that did not seem to work and now apply Neosporin after cleaning. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I have not yet cleaned his sheath yet because i did not know you had to. I have realized to day that he has not been peeing in a direct stream but more in a off and on. i am very worried about this. Will cleaning his sheath help this?!

I guess i should do it but the previous owners havnt said anything about it. Just wondering whether its important?

What works with my gelding to get him to drop his penis is to rub his belly. Try using a brush or your fingernails, that seem to relax him.
Just a thought!

When he pees it gets all over his belly. Is this a sign of his sheath needing cleaned? I have only had him a year, but he’s 8 yrs. old and I don’t think he has ever been cleaned.

Any ideas of how to get him to drop his penis, without having to tranquilize him? Someone mentioned that there is somestuff that can be purchased from the feed store that melts under the tongue. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks
