Got a Business Plan in Mind? Saddle Up!

After spending decades working with farm families to achieve their business goals, Steve Bulkley is passing his knowledge and experience down. On March 8, Bulkley will be giving an interactive workshop titled, “Saddle Up and Write that Business Plan.” Coming from Cornell University to the Ballston Spa in New York, Bulkley aims to help equine farmers start writing their business plan or improve their existing plans.

By the end of the evening attendees should be confident of the anatomy of a business plan and have started to write segments of the plans most important to them. For instance, someone starting a boarding business might develop a description of their goals, an outline of budgets for their business and target areas to research. Attendees may also be doing some number crunching, so they’re asked to bring a calculator. If they have business plans written or started for an equine business, Bulkley encourages participants to bring them along.

Bulkley is an Extension Associate for Business Analysis and Planning at NY FarmLink, a sister program to NY FarmNet located in the Department of Applied Economics and Management of Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Science. NY FarmLink works in coordination with Cornell Cooperative Extension to assist farm families with business consulting and farm opportunities.

”Saddle Up and Write That Business Plan” will take place at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County auditorium at 50 High Street, Ballston Spa, N.Y.,12020. Light refreshments will start at 6:30 p.m., with the workshop beginning at 7. Cost to attend the workshop is $25. Reservations are required in advance. To make a reservation or for more information, contact Fiona Farrell at CCE Equine at 518-885-8995 or fsf2@cornell.edu.

  • What a fabulous idea... now can you tour the country with the workshop? Because I can't get to New York!
