Edited Press Release

The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association (CMSA) Classic Equine Eastern U.S. Championship returns to the Miller Coliseum Equine Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on September 4-7, 2013. The four-day event pits some of the nation’s best mounted shooting competitors against each other to vie for the Eastern United States Championship title.

The public is invited free of charge to watch the competition which starts Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. and continues 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily through Saturday. The highlight of the competition and perhaps of most interest to the public is the Starline Friday Night Showcase of Champions that brings the event’s top competitors to compete in the finals of the Cavalry Class, Rifle Class, Shotgun Class and is topped off by the high-speed Cimarron Eliminator finals. Designed to entertain the public, the Showcase of Champions starts at 7:00 p.m. and is an action-packed crowd pleaser that is also free to the public. Western vendors selling cowboy hats, boots, clothing and tack will be open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the duration of the event as well as Friday night.

Cowboy Mounted Shooting is the fastest growing equestrian sports in the nation. The object of the sport is to shoot ten balloon targets while riding through a variety of challenging courses using specially loaded blank cartridges fired from Old West-style single-action revolvers. It’s a high-speed, timed spectator sport in which the competitor who rides the fastest with the least amount of missed targets wins. The CMSA’s™ Championship Series are held with the competitors riding as part of “Team Duke,” on behalf of the John Wayne Cancer Foundation, in order to raise awareness in their fight to cure cancer. The Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association™ is the governing organization of the sport and promulgates the rules and tracks the competitors of more than 100 affiliated clubs.

Organized in 1994, the CMSA now boasts over 100 local clubs in four nations, representing over 13,000 members. It sanctions over 600 events a year, including seven events at its highest level, the Championship Series, and pays out over $700,000 in prize money annually. To subscribe or advertise in the official CMSA magazine, THE RUNDOWN, contact our office at 888-960-0003 to request a media kit. 1. I attended a “Fun Day” this summer, and mounted riders, did some shooting. It looked like fun, but I am sure I would not have even hit one balloon.
