A fire broke out in New Bloomfield, Mo., Monday afternoon, burning two barns and an arena at Fairview Farms, a breeding and training farm that specializes in American Saddlebred horses and offers riding lessons. Fairview Farms is home to more than 50 horses, most of which were able to be saved. Unfortunately, seven of them, as well as three dogs, lost their lives in the fire.
According to KOMU, neighbors said the fire started small but grew after a something exploded around 1 p.m. It has not yet been determined what the explosion was; however, after the explosion, the fire spread to two other buildings and smoke could be seen from as far away as 10 miles. KOMU reports that fire department units from not only New Bloomfield but also surrounding cities and counties arrived on the scene to help put out the fire.
The road has since been closed and it can take reportedly days to weeks to determine the cause of the fire.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Fairview Farms rebuild its business. At press time, $40,755 was raised in just 16 hours. To find out more, or to donate, visit Relief Fund for Fairview Farms on GoFuneMe.
