I did not hear about helmets as a kid, but my kids wear one or they do not go near the horses for a ride.

After two falls from horses within five days of each other, one when I was wearing a helmet, I had brain injuries so severe I was on complete bed rest for 2-1/2 months. There are some lifelong results, one being that I had to sell my herd of gorgeous show horses. Without the helmet, the doctors have told me that I likely would have died. WEAR HELMETS around horses, folks!!!!!
