Free Pasture Management Video Series

Degraded pastures and improper manure management can have a serious impact on the environment. For horse owners who are concerned about promoting good land stewardship on their farms, a free video series is now available at the Equestrian Land Conservation Resource (ELCR) website (www.elcr.org). The series, “Keeping It Green: Pasture and Environmental Farm Management for the Horse Owner,” is intended to raise awareness and increase knowledge amongst horse owners across the nation about how to improve pastures and minimize their horses’ impact on the environment.
The video series is broken into eight segments:

“Rotational Grazing—Weed & Forage Control”

“Temporary Fencing—Do’s and Don’ts”

“Sacrifice Areas—What Are They”

“Soil Testing & Soil Amendments”

“Water Quality & Manure Management”

“Drainage Improvements in High Traffic Areas”

“Nutritional Benefits of Pasture Management”

“Best Management Practices”

The series was developed by Hudson Mohawk Resource Conservation & Development Council (HMRC&D) of New York in collaboration with the ELCR. Funding for the series was provided by the USDA Natural Resources

Conservation Service Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative.
