The Seabiscuit Legend Lives On

On May 23 a new Seabiscuit filly arrived, Bronze Sea. With this latest addition, there are now seven Seabiscuit descendants at Ridgewood Ranch in Willits, Calif., the home of the famous racehorse that made his mark over 70 years ago. Coincidentally, Bronze Sea was born on the same day as Seabiscuit, who was foaled in 1933.

Over the last two years, efforts have been underway to place Seabiscuit descendants at Ridgewood, and American Legend Horse Farm in Redwood Valley, Calif., has been leading the effort. American Legend is working in collaboration with Ridgewood to reestablish and preserve the bloodlines of the legendary horse.

American Legend Horse Farm began its breeding business in 2003 with its first Seabiscuit descendant, First Class Lacegold. “Lacy” is a registered Appendix Quarter Horse and goes back to Seabiscuit from her dam’s line.

From there, American Legend started a small breeding program to preserve Seabiscuit’s bloodlines and to produce the next generation of his descendants. With the arrival of the first foals in 2004-2005, American Legend started focusing efforts on working with Ridgewood Ranch.

In June of 2005, American Legend moved its breeding program to Ridgewood Ranch to grow the small herd of Seabiscuit horses.

  • I think it's great they are tryin to make more little Seabiscuits maybe one of them will have his speed and we will finally have a new triple crown winner!:-)

  • Im glad they are reviving the Seabiscuit bloodline but they are not the only ones with this bloodline as i too own a seasbiscuit decendent.

  • Seabiscuit was a very good racehorse.I have no doubt in my mind that Bronze Sea will become as great as Seabiscuit. When I get older i would like to become a jockey.maybe someday I will be riding her in the breeders cup.Maybe even in the Kentucky Durby.I just Know she will good enouhg to be in those races.Well, best of luck with training.
