WE ALWAYS INTEND TO HAVE A GOAT. THEY ARE SUCH WONDERFUL BARN BUDDIES TO HORSES! BUT FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND GABBY WOULD HAVE TO BE KEPT BRED AND BRED AND BRED… AND THEN WE’D SOON BE OVER RUN WITH GOATS. UNFORTUNATELY THERE ARE ONLY SO MANY 4H AND FFA MEMBERS IN THIS REGION TO TAKE THE KIDLETS/BABIES. IT’S KIND OF SAD BUT THERE ISN’T MUCH ANIMAL KEEPING IN SOUTHEN CALIFORNIA ANYMORE. SO I COULD FORESEE US BEING OVERCOME WITH GOATS IN A SHORT TIME. I GUESS GABBY WILL HAVE TO BE SATISFIED WITH “MOTHERING” SQUIRRELS.

I’ve horse savy but don’t know a lot about goats. I too have a goat companion for my 27 year young Arab mare. I’ve only owned a one other goat and it was a billy goat so this nanny goat is a sweet change. She’s on loan from the ranch at the end of our valley because she’s pregnant but won’t give birth until early summer. I’m going to see if I can keep her here with my Briahna as they’ve really bonded well. I’ll remember the “lean the goat back” trick, wonder if it’s like holding a hens head on a crack on the sidewalk!! LOL!!! Good luck with your girl. I’m sure enjoying mine.

If so, it might be worth a try. She appears to be so maternal that it seems that she would make a great mom!

We breed and sell so we don’t have your particular problem. Couldn’t you try breeding her? Although older she looks in great shape. Goat babies are wonderful ( and easy to sell)
Our billy goat ( named Billy) lives with our calf and they are thick as thieves.
