The Near Side: This Week in Horses — September 11, 2015

Hello and happy Friday, everyone. Here’s what’s been happening in the horse world this week.

  • The American Miniature Horse Registry National Championship is taking place in Tulsa this week, and there is a livestream! Watch it on iequine.com.
  • I assume that the person who stole 30 AQHA World Show trophies doesn’t intend to display them on their mantle and tell people that they had a really good 2015 show season. But what are they going to do with them?
  • Congrats are in order for Zari, the 7-year-old Grevy’s zebra who gave birth to a healthy filly this week. Grevy’s zebras are endangered, so this is an extra happy bit of news.
  • Hat’s off to these hockey players in Maine who are helping out with barn chores at a local equine rescue.
  • Hat’s off to Gothamist for compiling this fantastic set of videos of police horses having positive interactions with civilian dogs.
  • And for today’s frivolous celeb news, everyone’s favorite actress/equestrian Kaley Cuoco is featured in Shape magazine this month. She tells the magazine that she stays centered thanks to her six horses. You know, I’m feeling a little off-center, whatever that means. Maybe I should get some more horses.

That’s it for this week. Enjoy your weekend, everyone!
