About Caroline Tatum

Caroline Tatum is a lifelong advocate for Thoroughbred welfare with a career spanning every phase of the horse’s life cycle—from foaling barns to retraining centers. Currently, the Equine Program Director and Trainer at the Secretariat Center, she oversees all aspects of care, retraining, and rehoming for off-track Thoroughbreds—while also leading adoption efforts, social media, and donor engagement to expand the program’s impact.
Previously, Caroline founded and operated South Boundary Stables, where she rehomed over 40 OTTBs, developed individualized training for her students, and ran a boarding program. Her hands-on experience includes work at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, a local international event rider, and at leading Thoroughbred operations, including Eaton Sales, Athens Woods Farm, WinStar Farm, and Ashford Stud. Caroline’s deep understanding of how Thoroughbreds are raised, trained, and transitioned has shaped her philosophy of compassionate, individualized care. She remains committed to mentoring riders, educating adopters, and helping Thoroughbreds find lasting success in second careers.
