  • A little magazine called Horse Illustrated launched out of the Stallion Production, Inc. offices
    in California. The magazine aimed to reach all horse owners and enthusiasts,
    regardless of their breed or discipline affiliations.

    The American eventing team, with riders Edmund Coffin,
    Michael Plumb, Bruce Davidson and Mary Anne Tauskey, won gold at the Montreal
    Olympics. Coffin and Plumb won individual gold and silver, respectively. The U.S. dressage
    team of Hilda Gurney, Dorothy Morkis and Edith Master took home team bronze. West Germany was victorious in team dressage,
    while Christine Stuckelberger of Switzerland won the individual
    title. West Germany
    also saw gold thanks to Alwin Schockemohle in the individual show jumping. France
    earned the team show jumping gold.
