From Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association
“We are deeply appreciative and grateful that Equo has selected TCA to be their charitable partner,” said TCA executive director Erin Crady. “Like Uber for horses, each horse shipped via Equo will now be supporting TCA’s mission to assist Thoroughbreds and those who care for them.”
“We believe that horses are what give us a purpose in life and therefore we are happy to support TCA in their mission to provide for Thoroughbreds once their days on the track are over,” said Equo president Steven Bluman. “We are honored to be TCA’s recommended transportation solution and look forward to transporting many off-track-Thoroughbreds into their new homes.”
Founded in 2016, Equo’s mission is to make the horse industry more reachable and accessible by connecting owners, trainers, and riders with shippers all around the country via a mobile app. Horse owners can request transportation throughout the U.S. and Canada. Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) was formed in 1990 to raise and distribute funds to charities in the Thoroughbred industry that provide a better life for Thoroughbreds, both during and after their racing careers, by supporting qualified repurposing and retirement organizations and by helping the people who care for them. TCA distributes grants to several categories of Thoroughbred-related nonprofits including rehabilitation, retraining, rehoming and retirement organizations; backstretch and farm employee programs; equine-assisted therapy programs; and research organizations. TCA has granted over $22 million to more than 200 charities that successfully meet the criteria set forth in its annual grant application. From 2000-2016, more than 95% of TCA’s expenditures were allocated to program services including direct grants. TCA is the charitable arm of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA). www.tca.org
