The EQUUS Film Festival, which will be showcased for its fifth year in New York City, November 17-19, 2017, has been traveling around the U.S. and abroad with mini tours along the way. Next on the calendar is a tour stop at the Madras Performing Arts Center in Madras, Oregon.

Hosted by Warm Springs Horse Network, this fundraising tour stop will help orphan foals find a home, all while guests enjoy three days of captivating stories of human equine interaction. In between experiencing films on the silver screen, attendees will also have the opportunity to learn various Tribal traditions and meet local artisans.

Warm Springs Horse Network is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the placement of orphan foals, promotion of the Warm Springs horses from the Confederated Tribes in Warm Springs in Warm Springs, Oregon.

Nearly 30 films are scheduled for showings at the Madras festival, and some showings will include Q&A sessions with filmmakers.

Filmmaker Julianne Neal and trainer Bruce Anderson will be onsite for a screening of their film, The Edge – Bruce Anderson Natural Humanship. In this film, Anderson shows why he believes that man’s capacity to reduce the wild is both the cause and effect of mental imbalance. As a boy, he spent most of his time in “Mother Nature’s classroom” learning key tools to balance the mindset. The impact that horses have had on his life is fundamental to his work which uses a 1000-pound animal to deliver an epiphany: you are merely a steward of this earth. This film was the winner of the 2016 Equestrian Environmental Awareness WINNIE Award.

Another feature being showcased is Corrals To Competition and director Tori Kelly will be present to talk to guests. This film is about training wild horses in 100 days. The documentary follows Oregon horse trainer/clinician Stacey Riggs on her journey of gentling, training and riding two wild mustangs for two separate Extreme Mustang Makeover competitions.
