By now you’ve probably heard of western dressage or its cousin, Cowboy Dressage. The hybrid sport that brings together the precise discipline of traditional dressage with the cowboy stylings of western sports is relatively new and growing fast. It was recently added as an official discipline by the United States Equestrian Federation.
Western dressage isn’t just an American phenomenon. It’s catching on down under, as seen in this video from the opening of the 2012 Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships. Rider Linda Shore and her lovely Morgan stallion, Ranch Boss Cortez, show how the discipline is done, and take it up a notch around the 2:00 mark by leaving the bridle on the sidelines.
