Featured Video: Champions at the Beach

Tina Konyot and her stallion, Calecto V, have been a fixture of the top tier of American dressage for several years. We cheered them on at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games here in Kentucky. We watched them represent the U.S. in the 2012 London Olympics. And then we saw them contest another WEG just two weeks ago in Normandy, France. Turns out Calecto’s appearance at WEG was his swan song. Konyot is giving him a much-deserved retirement from competition. And how do you celebrate retirement? You go to the beach!

Konyot posted the video below to her Facebook page. This is Calecto, just days after performing on the equestrian world’s biggest stage, enjoying a gallop along Deauville Beach. Thanks for sharing the journey, Tina and Calecto.

This one might take a minute to load, but it’s worth the wait!

  1. That was fun! Only I think he was cantering not galloping. A nice controlled relaxing canter. Not like the crazy beach pony I rode last year!

  2. Retirement looks good on him. Noticed how long that mane got also. That’s not a beach ride just after the World Games, that mane took time to grow!

  3. Kathy, check the date on the Facebook post. Sept. 4, 2014–that was during the WEG! But you’re right, his mane does look long. He always seemed to have pretty big braids when he showed, so maybe that’s just how Tina preferred to keep it.

  4. Thank Martha, could very well be. Since it was during the games. Maybe a fuller mane was what was good for his braiding job. Thanks
