Experience Kentucky at the 2010 WEG

The plans for “The Kentucky Experience” were unveiled in a press conference held at the Kentucky Horse Park on Friday. Two of my co-workers and I took a break from work to find out what this is all about. In addition to getting a really cool free hat (and a potential spotlight appearance on the news–I unknowingly walked behind a reporter), we got the inside scoop about what this experience will offer the hundreds of thousands of horse lovers who will come from across the country and around the globe to see the World Equestrian Games in 2010.

Since all of these visitors won’t have time, or likely the desire, to peel themselves away from the equestrian attractions and excitement of the Games to see all of Kentucky, the state is coming to them. Even if you live here, there is sure to be something new for you to enjoy at The Kentucky Experience. Here’s a gist of what will be featured in 25,000 square feet of interactive exhibits and displays:

Welcome Center: Resources about where to go and what to do in Kentucky.

Product Pavilion: Bourbon and wine–enough said. There will also be arts, crafts and other products made in Kentucky that you can admire and buy. Drink (very responsibly of course), shop and be merry!

Exhibit Pavilion: Displays from Kentucky’s nine regions, including stalactites and stalagmites from the Caves, Lakes and Corvettes (oh my!) area of the state. How corvettes fit in with caves and lakes, I don’t know, but it sounds like fun.

Entertainment Pavilion: “Shake your groove thing, shake your groove thing, yeah, yeah!” Enjoy singing, dancing and visual arts.

Kentucky’s nine regions:

  • Kentucky Appalachians
  • Daniel Boone Country
  • Southern Lakes and Rivers
  • Caves, Lakes and Corvettes
  • Bluegrass Region
  • Kentucky’s Derby Region
  • Western Waterlands
  • Bluegrass, Blues & Barbecue (Say that five times fast!)
  • Northern Kentucky Region
